By Apostle William Korir

Elijah was afraid, and he fled for his life, he took his servants and went to Beersheba in Judah. Leaving his servants there, Elijah walked a whole day into the wilderness. He stopped and sat down in the shade of a tree and wished he would die. its too much, LORD, he prayed. "Take away my life, I might as well be dead!" He lay down under a tree and fell a sleep. Sudenly an angel touched him and said, "Wake up and eat." He looked round, and saw a loaf of bread and a jar of water near his head. He ate and drunk, and lay down again. The LORD'S angel returned returned and woke him up again the second time, saing get up and eat, or the journey would be too much for you. Elijah got up, and ate and drunk and the food gave him strength to walk 40 days to Sainai, the holy mountain. (I Kings 19:3-8) King Ahab and his wife Jezebel had let the Israelites to worship Baal. God had stoped the rains for three years and all the rivers had dried up because God was displeased with Ahab. King Ahab believed it was Prophet Elijah who stopped the rains and hunted him down planning to kill him. The Spirit of the Lord took Elijah up to the Palace and when the King saw him, he exclaimed! you trouble maker! But Elijah instead told the King that he the King was .... for he had led the Israelites into idol worship. Later Elijah suggested to the King to order for the 450 prophets of Baal to meet him at mount Carmel and engage each other in a spiritual contest in order to proof to the people who was a true God. Elijah suggested to them to start first as they were many, and that they should slaughter their bull and place it on the prepared altar but not to set fire on the wood. They were to pray to their god to do so. The prophets of Baal obliged and went a head to pray, however, by noon, no response had been received. Elijah started making fun of them , saying, to pray louded adding that probably the god was a sleep or had gone on a journey. The prophets prayed louder, they even started cutting themselves with knives, and daggers and blood flowed as part of the rituals, but there was no answer from the gods. In the middle of the afternoon, Elijah urged the people to move closer and he told tasked them to repair the altar of the LORD which had been torned down. Elijah then asked the people to fill jars of water and poor it on the altar until it was trenched. Elijah then moved closer to the altar and prayed; " O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, prove now that you are the God of Israel and that I am your servant and have done all this at your command. Answer me, LORD, answer me, so that this people will know that you, the LORD, are GOD, and that you are bringing them back to your self. The LORD sent fire down, and it burnt up the sacrifice , the wood, and the stones, scorched the earth and dried up the water in the trench. All the 450 prophets were killed at river Kishon(I Kings 18:18-40). When Jezebel received the message of extermination of the 450 prophets, he send word to Elijah that she would surely punish him with death. Elijah was afraid and he he fled for dear life. Many a times we witness the POWER of God in our lives but after the storm there is calm, and when some small trouble rise up against us, we easily forget the mighty works of Jehovah which he does through / or in our midst. Elijah ran with his servants and at some point he left them behind and ran a head still. When he felt he was far off from any danger he desired to die. He prayed to God to take his life. Elijah was frustrated. But God was not done with Elijah- he showed him more miracles - he sent an angel who brought him food to eat. The angel brought some more food later till Elijah was fully satisfied to give him sufficient energty to treck for 40 days to Mount Sinai, the Holy Mountain of God. god has good plans for his children and he chooses them for his mission. even though Elijah had proved to the World of the true God to be worshipped, When Jezebel threatened to kill him he lost faith and fear gripped him and he forgot call on God to save him from the hand of the evil Queen. interestingly, Elijah, challenged the King openely - but feared Jezebel indeed. The next time you find yourself in a situation like that of Elijah - Do not run, just look up and ask God to help you and he shall! HOPE MINISTRIES WORLD IS TODAY'S VOICE OF HOPE TO THE WORLD.
