As a ministry we firmly believe that God created sex to be enjoyed within the context of a heterosexual marriage, and that there is nothing bad about sex per se.
However, our ministry works specifically in the area where this gift of God is used outside of its context, or in ways that do not glorify God, but rather degrade and abuse the other person. For that reason we need to state clearly that sexual sin is not a passing pleasure or recreational activity that has no negative impact on us.
It impacts severely on ourselves. It changes the way we experience our emotions, the way we conduct our relationships and also changes the way we view ourselves. We might even become addicted to sex, emotions or relationships, so that we increasingly engage in high risk sexual activity, unhealthy and destructive relationships, while our emotions become a rollercoaster ride that control our lives.
It also impacts on those around us, especially our loved ones. They might be involved with us in the sexual sin, which locks all involved into a very intense cycle of secrets, lies and an inability to grow spiritually (even though outwardly we might look like committed Christians). Breaking out of such a cycle of silence and tolerance of sexual sin is not easy, and often causes much slander and heartache. Most of all — it leaves the children exposed to such a secret cycle of sexual sin very vulnerable and without protection, growing up in an environment where they are exploited and exposed to destructive emotional, relational and sexual behaviour. It often leads to an inability to trust in later life.
Those near to us might not be aware of our sexual sin, and might live under the impression that we are faithful. Finding out later that they have been deceived is the cause of much pain and destruction in families, and leaves the spouse and children devastated, often unable to rebuild the trust.
Unchecked or socially acceptable sexual sin in societies also changes the face of societies. It never take place in isolation, but rather destroys the moral and ethic fabric of a society. History has shown that this could lead to the destruction of whole societies.
